Printer installation in Apple computers

Adding a printer in an Apple computer should be done by the built-in printer configuration application (the web interface for the CUPS system is disabled by default). The operating system will select the appropriate printer driver itself. The user is only required to provide a valid printer URL.

Step by step

Below you will find a short instructional video on how to add a printer in macOS Catalina. If you encounter any problems with the installation, please contact the institutes’ IT administrator at helpinst@mimuw.edu.pl.

  • Open the system configuration and select Printers and scanners.
  • Click on the + symbol to add a printer. add_printer_macos
  • Enter administrator’s password if required.
  • In the new window, provide the following information:

    Addres: cups.mimuw.edu.pl
    Protocol: IPP
    Queue: printers/nazwa_drukarki
    Name: the printer will be visible in the OS under this name, e.g. lp4150a
    Lokalizacja: printer's location
    Użyj: Universal PostScript Printer add_printer_macos_param

  • Set default options, for example, double-sided printing.
  • Installation completed successfully.
